Traditional sugar shack experience and distillery in Lanaudière
Departure takes place at Radisson metro station at 12:30 p.m. On the road, your driver-guide introduces you to local culture and history and leads discussions on board.
The first stop takes us to the Oswald Sugar Shack in St-Esprit. The cabin offers a true authentic immersion, transporting us to an era, when simplicity and communion with nature were the pillars of life. For more than 65 years, this charming cabin, nestled in a peaceful forest, has generously shared the magic of the sugar season. Its cheerful and welcoming environment revives the senses – the pungent smell of burning maple wood that fills the air is the perfect example.
A traditional experience: start with fresh bread, homemade creton, and pea soup. Accompany your meal with homemade marinades: ketchup, beets and sweet pickles. Taste the crispy ears, baked beans and sausages in maple syrup. Discover the exclusive specialty: maple pork and ham meatballs. Savor the roasted potatoes, the fluffy omelette and the famous Oswald-style ham. On request, we offer eggs in syrup for a touch of sweetness. For dessert, enjoy pancakes drizzled with maple syrup and homemade sugar pies. Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee to accompany your meal. And finally, don’t miss the taffy on the snow to close the feast.
After this excellent typically Quebecois meal, we are in Nouvelle Acadie, in Saint-Jacques de Montcalm, for a visit and tasting at the Distillerie du Grand Dérangement. This strange, crooked building houses the distillery and the distiller’s economuseum. You will learn the process of distilling gin, vodka and whiskey, the principles of grain to bottle and the circular economy used on site as well as the history of distillation in Quebec. The visit ends with a product tasting and a visit to the economuseum. An unmissable discovery in the cradle of New Acadia.
Take the road back to Montreal after a day of discovering pieces of the history and taste of this beautiful region of Lanaudière. Return to Montreal around 5:45 p.m.
The 2 companies visited use local products and circular economy principles. An overview of the flavors of Lanaudière on the roads surrounded by beautiful nature, accompanied by a guide-driver who shares his knowledge with you and guided tours from enthusiasts, this is what awaits you during this day.
